内容简介:We demonstrated matter-wave self-imaging in a bi-directional, asymmetric (one-branch, scattered-field result), high-order sequential matter-wave superradiant scattering. We show that it is the backward-propagating, stimulated field that, in conjunction with the pump field, diffracts the condensate, resulting in the collapse and revival of the condensate momentum distributions as a function of the pump pulse durations.We show that the observed matter-wave self-imaging is due to the atomic motion and instantaneous Doppler shift in a finite temporal phase grating. We also discuss new features of the matter-wave-superradiant-scattering-based grating formation and diffraction. It is remarkable that such a spontaneously stimulated generated field (therefore strongly wave propagation dependent) based temporal grating can yield such an impressive matter-wave self-imaging that collapses momentum distributions to all orders.
